2015 Sports Car Classic

I have never been to this track.  I had seen the IndyCar race on television numerous times but IMSA had not gone here before 2014 and even then, it was a class restricted race and none of my usual clients were going to be there. We were on the west coast and were not ready to drive back yet, so Kim parked the rig in Las Vegas and I flew back to Detroit.  We don’t fly much anymore so we made the huge mistake of booking my flight on Spirit Airlines. Don’t.Ever.Use.Them  Not even if the ticket is $300 less than the next flight.  Odds are that your cheap flight won’t leave on time, or at all.  Or in my case, not have a flight crew. I was supposed to leave Vegas at 11AM and get to Detroit around 3 or 4PM.  that would have been enough time to pick up the rental car, drop by the credential office for my parking pass and grab some dinner. When they cancelled my flight, it was already over an hour past takeoff.  Spirit put me on a flight leaving at 11PM that night.  This would get me into Detroit at 6AM. I had cars on track at 8AM. Not good.  They also put me on standby for a flight leaving at 3PM.  Somehow I got on the flight and to Detroit.  Never again Spirit Airlines, never.

Anyway, the temporary track at Belle Isle is pretty cool.  There are lots of great areas to shoot and there are quite a few backgrounds to use.  I quite liked it.  It did rain quite a bit.  I am used to being wet, so no biggie.  During a practice, I was stranded on the back half of the track by the river for over an hour.  I guess the shuttle driver took a nap or forgot about me.  I actually ended up calling the media center so they could send someone to find the shuttle.  I would have walked, but it was quite a hike and the path was essentially a swamp from all the rain.  Aside from that small roadbump, the weekend went pretty well.  My main team was on the podium and even though it was POURING during the ceremony, they had fun.

I dried out and headed to the airport for my flight back to Vegas. This time there were no surprises at the airport and I was back with Kim in the hottub with a beer by 9PM Vegas time.  The favored shots from the weekend are included below. Next:  We have a few weeks off, then the long drive to New York.  Question is, how will we best avoid Kansas and Oklahoma this year?  We will probably take I94 across the top since we are going to spend some time up at Glacier National Park in Montana.
